hey whats up, im hella new to this board, ive been with honda's forever untill i traded my 99 civic hatch for a black 93 Rx7.

im running into a few problems with it, ill list all what it has and doesnt, as of right now, she's garaged for the winter.

-fully rebuilt engine, new rotors, rotor housings,3mm apex seals, all new seals, gaskets, bearings, and Etc. i guess the rotor housings were cryo-ed?if thats the correct term.

-street ported

-HKS single turbo conversion, stock IC and radiator, unsure on which turbo i have,,,(its big, the compressor side housing almost hits the shock tower sheet metal)

-HKS 3 inch DP

-HKS 3in mid pipe/cat

-HKS 3 in exhaust

-HKS external wastegate

----no BOV

----no clue on how much boost, no guage, kid claimed 8psi

----stock injectors

--stock fuel pump

----stock computer

----pretty much everything else is stock

the problems,,,, check engine light is on, i dont know how to read the codes.

1st gear when it grips, will windout no problem and redline at like 8300-8500ish. 2nd gear when it hooks up. it will redline or cut out at 6500ish. its like a ignition cut, or fuel cut,,, hope she didnt detonate.

and 3rd gear at like 5500, it does that same cut thing. this only happens when im at full throttle, otherwise at less throttle, it will actually rev out further. 4th and 5th im sure will do the same thing, because the engine is under a bigger load. after it does that cut, and i let off the gas, i just goes right back down to idle at like 800-900r's with no wierd ****. when i shift from 1st to 2nd it shoots a nice flame out the exhuast, so i imagine it would be running rich,, not always a bad thing. i dont really know that much about this car, other than its pretty fast and looks hella sexy. if anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction,, it would be great. the engine was sent out to be rebuilt somewhere in florida i guess, i forgot the name of the place/guy.

---the other problem that happened 4 days ago. the weather was nice so i pulled the 7 out of the garage beucasei had to spraypaint one of my other cars (winter beater). after i was done i let the car idle for like 10 mins to warm up, i went down the road a bit and got on it a few times. i wound out 1st, shifted early out of 2nd so the thing wouldnt do the shutdown problem on me,, becuase i still dont know whats its doing (being safe i guess) and by doing that i smoked the clutch a lot, but i dont care, i planned on putting a new clutch in it over the winter, so i parked i, let it idle for 3 mins, killed it, and during that time, i smelt the stench of the burnt clutch. i thought no biggie, i dont care. 2 days later i had to move it again, i let it warm up and pushed in the clutch and went to put it into 1st,,, **** didnt go down that way,, it wouldnt let me go into 1st or any other gear no matter what, if i try forcing it, the car lurches an makes a god awful screaching noise. so i was like WTF! i turned it off, then it would go into the gears again like it should, so i fired it up and same problem, so i killed it,,, put it into revserse, then fired it up and that worked, but as i started to let out the clutch and started to move, it made that loud *** screaching noise. so i killed it and pushed it. but the problem still is the same. the chassis and trans/clutch have 94k engine/turbo 3k . i can tell the engine was removed not too long ago, so it seems legit, ive done like 15 honda swaps, so i know what to look for. it only did that cut out problem 3 times,,,, 1st and 2nd were trial,, 3rd was accident, so i hope no damage was done. the noise it made sounded like it was getting the ignition cut, no other noises whatsoever. no clunks, clangs, or bangs, or knocks from the engine.

-----like i said, im new to this forum, i plan to make this my new residence for Rx7 info. thanks to all that help me out in anyway possible!!!

Your biggest problem is you have all these mods with a single turbo and still the stock ECU. My advice is stop driving it and start reading.

yeah, you need to find out what turbo you have and build a fuel system for it

also sounds like your tranny might be totally out of fluid, either that or the synchros are seriously toasted. You need to do some serious catching up on rx-7s and turbo cars in general before you even start this thing up again. Running an fd with upgrage turbo on stock computer, and stock injectors is not smart at all. You can barely get away with running intake an exhaust on stock turbos, I've seen almost 90% injector duty cycle at 12.5psi.

stock fuel system and no management = BIG HEADACHE......overboosting will come quickly due to the free flowing exhaust.

your issue as far as the limiter in 2nd is most likely a fuel cut/overboost response. if it happens that early in second, it will get earlier in the upper gears.....

please read and god willing, enjoy the car carefully, and yes, figure out exactly what you have.

1. your definitly hitting the stock computers boost cut

2. the stock computer isn't giving it the fuel it needs for a single conversion.

3. you smoked the clutch and shut it down right away, it probably warped the disk or broke the disk so it is still grabbing even when the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor...

get a new clutch, find out what turbo is on it, get fuel and get a computer or you'll be out a **** load of $ building a new engine...

you tell 'em russell, some of us "kids" are mechanically inclined, hell some of us are in school making it a profession.

Stereotyping is never a good option, in any cases whatsoever.

Heck half the "ricers" out there have the ability to swap in whole different engines rewiring them and all on there own abilities. Sure you may not like the cars looks but you need to respect most of the people's abilities. Some people are just "stupid" when it comes to cars but it is DEFINITELY NOT limited to "kids".
