3rd Gen Registry Website

Just wanted to announce the opening of the Registry / FD website ( http://www.fd3s.cc ) I have developed and worked on with the help of some fellow FD owners
For those who are unaware please check out the site.
Basically the main purpose is to collect vehicle information for all US owned FD's to compile accurate data about how many FD's are actually left in existance in the states.
After you sign up for an account on the site, please go to the registry section and register your car.
I will need the full VIN for recording and verifying uniqueness. Please note that on the site your VIN will always display with the check digit omitted for security purposes. There are also other administrative only fields when registering your FD such as email address and last name, neither of these will be viewable by end users.
The site also contains several other features, a Photo Gallery, an aftermarket part based photo search, howto sections and other general FD related information. The photo search is one portion of the site that I am still working on and trying to index all of the images that I have acquired.
Any questions or comments please let me know.
Also if you do encounter any problems with the site just shoot me a pm or email.

Well quite honestly you might be right. But the popular belief was that it would add some security. However VIN's are also pretty damn easy to get as it is.
If you call up the DMV, you can actually ask for a printout of all the XXX models of cars registered in that state. I forget how much they ask for, but it's between $5 and $20 a car IIRC - depending on what state you live in. That'll provide you with owner name, address, year, make, model, and VIN. I dunno what else it'll provide you with...but those things are definites.
I mean if you think it should be done another way feel free to offer suggestions. It's certainly easy enough to code out another digit or two or whatever.

I'm not against this "Registry", but I'm still not quite certain of the purpose.
Why do I necessarily care how many other FD's are out there? And even if every owner responded to it, will it be accurate for more than just a few weeks or months? Is there is a way to update it? Are there ways to remove those cars that are totalled out, or for any reason no longer streetable, and likewise a way to add cars that are rehabilitated without relying on the owners to re-contact the registry? If not it how accurate could it be?

The purpose is to get an accurate count of how many are out there. There is / has been a lot of interest on this subject on many of the forums and at events and what not that I have attended. I think it would benefit all owners to know exactly how many 3rd gens are out there, and in what color / model package.
You're right, it most likely can never be 100% accurate but getting close is certainly something to strive for. The website is fully interactive, users can register their fd's, remove them, make changes if sold or totalled etc.
I'm counting on owners being proactive here and keeping their information up to date. With the amount of people who post on all of the forums I see no reason that this can not be a good thing.
I am always open to suggestions and help on how to make the site better and easier. I've been working with a bunch of guys trying to come up with various ideas and improvements in making the site better, but I can't figure out a single way to get this information without relying on owners to contact the registry short of personally contacting all DMV's and paying for vehicle information.
Another option is to work with the moderators on the various forums to get this information gathered as part of the signup process for the forum itself. That would certainly gain more exposure for the registry itself.
