Thumbs up 1st rx7 86 gl

i had a question about the smog pump... i picked up an 86 gl for 200 bucks for parts for an 88 vert i had well i sold the vert and some parts and now i'm left with the parts car that i'm going to try to bring back to life. On other cars i've usually just done away with all the junk and had maybe 1-2 belts robbing the crank but this is were im stumped the smog pump has an opening into the block... Can that be blocked off i've asked on another forum but they have super low traffic i was hoping to get some good feedback..

Thanks

Jd

Yes, it can be blocked off. Its purpose is to feed fresh air into the exhaust ports to clean up the emissions and let the cats function better. If you dont have cats, then the air pump and the ACV(the part on the manifold it feeds to) can be removed, and a block-off placed over the ACV location on the manifold. You will need to do something about the belt driving the water pump though. One belt isnt enough to drive the water pump with so little contact area. You can get a dual belt alternator pulley to allow you to run 2 belts which is the common solution.
