I'm debating if i should buy a 1993 R1. It has 108xxx miles on the chassis. The body is in pretty good shape. There are a few little dings but not very noticeable and the interior is like an 8 out of 10. The only problem is that the engine has low compression and floods when it isn't started for a couple days but it does runs, however. What would you guys pay for it? The guy is asking 8k.

R1 are a name only plus a bigger oil pan and second oil cooler. the market for it might be 9000-13000 but just get a base save 3000 and put that 3000 on the engine rebuild. and you'll wip up on R1 and vipers, vettes, and supras. 108K will make it harder resale for a big price.

Is 8 grand a good price though for a car like that, though?
|
HELL YES  most pople pay 5000 to 7000 for an new engine and turbo so add that in you figures
|
$8k is not bad at all!
|
offer the guy like 6500. or have it taken for a compression check at the local mazda dealer. that is the only thing that those guys are good for, and they suk at that.
if it has bad compression, nad he won't come off of the price, use the 100~ tha thte check will cost you, and tell him to take that off of the $. 'cause bro, 8K is not bad at all, and a reman can be had for ~$2400, you do the math.... |

any rx7, to ME, is worth about 8K if the body looks pretty good....
|
just be prepared to dump money into the car.......

I have a great running 93 R1 and I paid $11,800 with 96,000mi. So I would say subtract about $4000 off that price and offer the guy $6800. Just to let you know I got my car at a steal of a deal.
|
yea vosko is right that big crack habbit that you have will now be taken over by the rx-7 habbit.

i overpaid for mine, but hell, it ran for a little while!

I agree with the guys here. 8,000 is not bad, but you're gonna have to turn around and put quit a bit of money back into it. Then there's the down time while it's being fixed. Are you mechanically inclined? Do you have a good friend who's mechanically inclined? Do you have a place you can work on the car? Do you have time to work on the car?
It could be fun if you're into that sort of thing. And you would have a 'new motor'. I'd low ball him at like 6,500 and maybe meet at 7,000. But then I'm frugal. Tom |
By the way, they ARE fun as hell!!!

i wish i found that car before i found mine!!!! 2 years ago
