I don't know for certain but I would assume that everything is the same aside for the lack of emmisions on the JDM engine. The engine in that picture though has an airpump. I thought they didn't use airpumps in Japan. Maybe its only the EGR they don't use. It should not be a problem to pair a US market harness with that engine. If I am wrong then correct me.

JDMs have airpumps....since they use a main cat... they don't have a precat or EGR from my understanding.
i see no reason a US harness and ECU wouldn't work on it.

That's reassuring, I just wanted to make sure before I start charging the credit card up. Thanks a lot for the piece of mind!

why not get the JDM harness and ECU...can't be that much more.
the later JDM motors had a different rats nest (if you plan to run seq), and want to say the ECU upgraded in processor size...not that, that has anything to do with the mechanics.
If you are looking for a drop in replacement motor and it's a difference of a couple hundreds bucks...I'd get it.
If you plan to work the motor, I wouldn't worry about it. since you'll need a different ECU anyway.

It's going in a sprinter, the motor will remain stock except for intake and exhaust. I just bought a USDM harness and ECU. Was hoping it would run a JDM motor. Thanks guys!

I think the harness and ECU, especially teh ECU is a lot of $. A local importing place wanted 1100 cdn for the 99 spec ECU. A 99 engine was going for 3200 cdn + 15% tax (they won't give you the cash discount on this one). I think the avg price of FD engines depending on model year is between 2900 cdn and 5500? I've only seen one at 5500 + tax but that had go fast goodies like exedy twin plate clutch, and intersting turbo and stuff already on it, and it was a 99 block.
S4 and S5 engines with tranny are 900 cdn cash not delievered. If you had cash in hand and someway of taking it home with you on the spot I have heard of people getting them for 760 CDN + tax, with full accessoires, tranny, alt, etc...

There is no reason to get a JDM motor unless your getting the 99+ with the newer style "rats nest". Even then, your just wasteing your money. Unless you got a unbeliveable deal on that motor I would try and find on stateside. The internals are all the same, only differance is the EGR on the LIM, and that is to easy to block off.
