hopin to get some technical info..

upon accessory teardown of the motor.. turbos.. manifolds... etc

i noticed the LIM gasket was gasket material...

ive always assumed it to be metal..

further inspection of the gasket made me suspicious..

noticed that the small port located right underneath the rear intake path from the LIM

and the.. matching port right underneath the side housing secondary port...

reveals heavy carbon buildup..

checked the gasket.. and found that the gasket doesnt have the matching opening...

gasket placed was blocking this path !!!!...

investigation of the factory manual shows that the gasket provides for the opening..

question... can anyone explain this port's function..

Mazda used paper gaskets for everything on the stock motors. As for the port diffrence in your housing, I dunno. I think the Jspec motors have diffrent port sizes.

the original intake gaskets were the normal paper, and there are at least 2 different paper gaskets until they switched to the metal gasket in 97ish.

that port in the back is for egr, the revisions of the gaskets, among other things kept making that passage smaller, until its the current size. its common for the gasket to blow out in that corner

informative info although....

maybe i need to rephrase.. there is no opening in the gasket..

there was no provision for any flowthrough between ports..

from the LIM to the rear side housing.. as the gasket completely blocked the path..

probably not much help here... but I'm going to guess that since the metal gaskets wernt made until 97' that it's JDM thing. they might have gotten rid of that hole, or dont even have one on the JDM version.
