Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but is the lower intake manifold required to swap this on? Any info would be appreciated. I can get the upper intake manifold and 20b throttle body, what else would I need to complete this setup? And would the lower intake manifold of the fd restrict that of the new cosmo upper intake manifold and make it a waste to swap?

You would need to get the lower manifold as well. Also, you would need to port your engine to the same size as the cosmo 13B.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it!

Fd3BOOST 01-25-2004 09:54 PM

Van at any point that you come across a set of these let me know.

Let me know exactly whatcha need sweetie https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Fd3BOOST 01-28-2004 10:16 PM

well if your gonna be all sexy about it.

I would be intersted in the LIM,UIM, TB, and the throttle cable..

Is that pretty much all i would have to swap out to throw in on my engine?

Fd3BOOST 01-28-2004 10:17 PM

Oh and the intake elbow i suppose too. Derrhhh https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Fd3BOOST 01-28-2004 10:19 PM

I didnt read through this to see if it was discussed but what about the TPS?? Do i need the one of the cosmo. Will it be on the throttle body?

What the **** do i do to adjust the TPS? I never have even looked twice at it.

r-magic 01-29-2004 11:22 PM

Hey Fd3boost, I'm currently doing this mod....if u need some help PM me. I know where u can probably get a 20B throttle body. I'll PM u the number tommorrow.

Thanks,I currently have a repu project I am buying parts for so I would rather buy them all at once as opposed to pieceing the stuff all together.

Thanks for any links or info.

thafox 01-30-2004 12:02 AM

sorry to bring this up again since i've heard of a few spacer/adapter kits from 6port to 4 port so......will this intake manifold both upper and lower fit earlier 13b's?

jspecracer7 01-30-2004 05:52 AM

The manifold only fits 13B-re or 13B-rew. I'm sure you can just slap into your 1st Gen a 13B-re engine and call it good

Davi-locks,

You'll need to use the one on the 20B throttle body. You'll need to swap 2 pins on it so that it will work on your FD though. I used the Power FC to adjust my TPS(read the voltage off of the commander).

Be warned though, the only problem you will have is the INJECTORS. You WILL NEED to have either 850cc injectors OR a stand alone ECU and run secondary injector size of your choice.

Fd3BOOST 01-30-2004 10:38 PM

So then find me the parts homey https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Silver Ninety Three 02-27-2004 01:49 PM

I'd like the manifolds and gaskets as well

toddp31 02-28-2004 10:10 PM

Any of you guy still looking for the stuff for the swap? I just got a Cosmo that died due to low compression. I can pull all **** you need, just PM me.

kahren 03-16-2004 04:37 PM

so does anyone have any hard numbers on what this setup is actaulyl good for?

saiyanjin93 03-31-2004 09:41 PM

what would it take to get the 13b re into the fd..is there a kit to place it in the fd with the motormounts being different. I priced the 2 engines up and there is a big difference in $$$$$$

The 13B-RE is better in an FC. Reason being the motors will bolt up exactly. Making a 13B-RE fit into an FD is like trying to put a 13B-REW into an FC....not a fun task.

boostdfd3s 04-03-2004 07:43 PM

jspecracer7, do you have anything to show how effective this swap is? Dyno sheets or the like? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I'll get it tuned by Japan's finest tuner(IGYpoo) and then I'll get it dyno'd for reference.

rkg8188 04-04-2004 10:39 AM

So my 93 R1 is being repainted. I took the oppurtunity to take the engine down for some preventative maintenance. Took out the stock twins and saw 4 cracks on the wastegate opening. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif So I started making some phone calls to replace them I was initially thinking about the used 99 Efinis, but their cost is too high. One of my friends has a 95 Cosmo 13B RE. He claims that because of its make up, the 13b RE twins are much more reliable that the FD's. He is offering to sell me the twins and the LEM for $1000. I am thinking that it should be an easy bolt on, but is there something that I am missing. Why doesn't everyone do this mod? Will there be HP gains?

My mods are Pettit Downpipe/midpipe/ECU, Denso fuel pump, Greddy Intercooler, Koyo Radiator.

LeisureMaster 04-04-2004 11:47 PM

I heard the 13B Cosmo Twins are smaller than the FD stocks.

rkg8188 04-05-2004 05:50 PM

They are smaller, but I read somewhere that the Cosmo puts out almost 280 HP. That's more than the stock FD set up

Cosmo 20B puts out 280 hp...not the 13B-RE

LeisureMaster 04-06-2004 09:59 PM

Jspecracer7 is correct. Also, the 13B RE has a smaller exhaust sleave than the FD and I doubt it was designed to make 280hp.

rkg8188 04-06-2004 10:05 PM

I looked at the turbos today. They are smaller, and the exhaust port opening of the turbos are actually smaller than the 13B REW, but that just means that the width of the metal surrounding the opening is thicker. This leads me to believe that the system would lose boost more slowly when de-accelerating. Wouldn't that also mean that the wastegate would be less susceptible to heat cracking that the 13B?

boostdfd3s 06-23-2004 04:27 PM

From what ive heard they restricted the exhaust pathways of the 13B cosmo to increase torque

the_glass_man 12-26-2004 11:33 PM

Has anyone actually obtained hard numbers for the swap? Obviously the ports and runners flow more. It would be nice to have a hybrid with RE intake housings and REW exhaust housings.

jspecracer7 12-27-2004 08:00 AM

I believe I am one of the first (to my knowledge) that has done the swap (RE manifolds with REW exhaust housings and ported FD primary/secondary ports port matched).

No numbers with the street port but I will be going T88/Bridgeport in the near future (3 ~ 4 Months).

doduong11 05-16-2007 08:55 AM

I'm sorry but does anyone happen to have these parts at all, i'm about to have my engine rebuilt it would be nice to have these parts for the rebuilt. Please let me know thanks alot guys.
