Will you really get any gain from insulating your turbo? and wrapping the turbo exhaust manifold with some anti heat wrapping stuff? LMK guys., thx

1Revvin7 01-02-2003 12:19 AM

Will cut the turbos life short, the heat will have no where to go, just eat up the turbo/manifold.

u should wrap the downpipe, not he turbo

Geoffman72 01-02-2003 03:15 AM

It will eat the downpipe up too. I would make a custom heat shield personally.

UniqueTII 01-02-2003 03:31 AM

My DP has been wrapped for years with no problems...I don't know if it does any good, though.

Geoffman72 01-02-2003 03:58 AM

It should technically keep intake and underhood temps down. My LIM must be dying, ive got nothing down there.

UniqueTII 01-02-2003 04:03 AM

Well, I don't have any heat shields around the turbo, so I'm breaking even at best.

Leetheslacker 01-02-2003 04:08 AM

Maybes its different between turbo and na but on our old beemer it burned a hole in the headers and when it was fixed we wrapped it in heat wrap stuff and it burned another hole.

Jerk_Racer 01-02-2003 10:42 AM

That's exactly what that stuff does. At least for the majority.

Yeah I plan on shielding my Lim, and maybe wrapping my Dp, I know it will kill it but o well. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png its a dp not a 1k turbo https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Besides its racingbeat there **** is good quality.

cymfc3s 01-02-2003 01:38 PM

i wouldnt wrap the dp. Makes it prone to cracking. If the DP is a thick steel, i wouldnt worry about it though. Some DP's are super thin.

vosko 01-02-2003 02:30 PM

my TII had heatshields till they fell off on the drag strip.....lol

Erik 01-02-2003 02:35 PM

my turbo (exhaust side) is coated with that high temp titanium coating...i think its the same stuff on the apexi n1 catbacks...maybe it helps...maybe not https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png hehe

amp 01-02-2003 02:56 PM

ideals behind exhaust wrapping and coating...

is to maintain the high temp within the exhaust stream...

higher temp maintains...

if not enhance... the rate of exhaust flow..

and providing cooler external temps while hindering rust..

j9fd3s 01-02-2003 03:52 PM

yes you want to maintain a certain temp, but you dont want to go over cause it will kill everything, and the rotary does that stock

Thats what i've been told, its basically not a good idea, unless you have cash to replace stuff alot. So if its a FULL race car, yes wrap/coat everything.

Fastrotaries 01-02-2003 08:41 PM

i wrapped my DP for about 3 yrs and no rotting with either the Bonez Dp or the Thunderfabrications one. I don't think it would do much to the stock unit unless you're running it to it's max.
