Has anyone ever wrapped their header in the heat wrap to keep the engine bay colder? If so, is there any gains, does it actually work?

 

i have wrapped my down pipe and yes it does help with engine bay temps. or at least it did for me!

 

yes it does help, but before you wrap your headers, make sure you get rid of all of the rust and coat your headers with por20 or some other non pourous heat resistant paint

 

you are exchanging one problem for another. Now you have trapped all the heat in the header. Not good for welds, especially if the wrap gets wet and has any trace of Chlorides in it.



Heat+Chlorides+stress= Clhoride stress corrosion



A better solution is a header heat shield and some ducted air

well its actually brand new rbeader so there is no rust or anything. Can i ceramic coat them myself?

Ide say ceramic coat them then wrap them, plus more heat in the exhaust the better.

 

i went to my local parts store and i found ceramic coating for 1200 degrees and then some other brand called VHT that did not say ceramic but it can handle 1500. Which would be better or would either work? i thought the rotary exhaust was hotter than those.
