Well, I got all the dash stuff done and now I just have to get the car onto the lift to finish up the driveshaft and hook some mufflers up....and I should be good. I rewired the 3rd gen fuel pump today, and got a new starter. Only thing left to do is get the AFM(or MAF, whichever you call it) and put the seats back in. Oh, during this long process...my 88 is quickly becoming a 91...I now have a 91 motor/harness/guage cluster/center console/driveshaft/wing/hood/and some other stuff...I had to change EVERY wire in the car! From headlights to tailights...all my wiring harnesses are now '91...one problem, I couldn't get a turbo 91 guage cluster...so I used an NA one...which reads redline at 8+...that is gonna be sooooooo tempting...but in the turbo I'll probably shift at about 6500...

That's similar to what I did with my car. I used an NA cluster. You can shift the TII motor at 8K, but with the stock turbo the motor won't make much more power after 7K.

The stock turbo starts to restrict exhaust flow after a while, but if you free everything up it will do ok at 8K.

So it won't hurt it to shift that high? Thats why I was gonna shift low...I have the free flowing exhaust, intake, and soon FMIC...will I still get decent power at about 7 or 7500? That would be sweet!

Shifting at 8K will be fine. With those mods you should be able to make some power up there.

Do you guys have any internal engine mods? i mean how can you go up to 8500 rpm? I did that on my red 87 GXL and as you see from my sig all i got were blown apex seals. Of course i did use fuel injector cleaner.

8500 is usually safe if your motor is in good shape. My motor is ported and has 3 mm apex seals. The porting helps the motor breathe better at high RPM'. If you rev a bone stock car to 8500 it's not going to make any more power.

If you want to rev above 8500 you should get upgraded rotor bearings and gears, but those would also be good even if you just plan on revving to 8500.
