there was no SE in 97. The engine and trans will bolt in just fine. You should use the S5 trans if you have it though, as the synchros were updated in 89. Also, use the S5 manifolds, emissions, ecu, etc if available. Again, they were updated.

Physically, S4 and S4 stuff is interchangable, but many things were updated for S5 and Id recommend using the S5 stuff whereever available.

there is no SE in 91, but ok.....

well the pysical block and trany will bolt in no problem.... but the intake manifold and electroincs on(86-88) s4 and s5(89-91) are quite different.

you have two options

1. you will want to use all the s5 electroincs and intake manifolds , . you would also need to swap the front cover for use with the s5 electronic OMP, or plug in the s5 omp and zip tie it off somewhere, and either wire the s4 OMP full open, or run premix...

NOTE: the s5 manifolds dont fit on the s4 block unless u notch a small area ontop of the block... there is a write upsomewhere for this its not tooo crazy...

OR

2. pull out your s5 passenger engine harness, and rewire in an s4 one, which is alot of rewiring.... you will also have to change the plug on the harness for the driver side at the ecu, basicly cutting it off and spicing wiring into an s4 plug... again a large wiring mess...

there was a 91 base, which is essentially an SE. But there were no models for 91.

A coupe, B coupe, and base i think. no badging.

base had single piston front rotors but they were 5 lug. thats about it i think?
