So when you spin the tires does one spin the other way, or both in the same direction?
My wheels spin in opposite directions. I have LSD.

Hi, I am new to this board, and to RX7's. But I saw that you guys said that when jacked up, that both wheels should turn, but one in the opposite direction. I have an 87 N/A, and when I turn one wheel, the other does not turn at all. And when it is in reverse, the right wheel doesn't turn at all, when the car is jacked up. I was having a problem with the tranny, or something along the line so this would help me out greatly.

Didn't Mazda first use a Clutch type LSD and then switch to a TORSEN?

The object of the LSD rear end is to make it so that both wheel turn at the same speed most of the time. If you have the rearend jacked up and the tranny out of gear with a LSD both wheel should spin the same direction. If it is in gear it will probably be harder to turn and one might go backwards, this is the action that you get while cornering. If you do not have LSD then when the rearend is lifted both wheels will turn opposite all the time. It is possible to leave to tracks with no LSD it just high RPM Starts usually. I do not know exactly what it means if you turn one and the other does not spin, unless this is happening with the tranny engaged.

S4 LSD = 2-way mechanical/clutch

S5 LSD = viscous

[QUOTE]unless this is happening with the tranny engaged.

The transmission was not ingaged when I was turning the one wheel, and the other wheel did not turn at all.

I picked up a diff from the junkyard in an 91 gxl, and it turned out to be an open diff. Ordered a LSD from mazda dismantling a month ago and they sent me another open diff. I just yesterday recieved finally a LSD unit from mazda dismantling, at least it looks like a pretty new unit, no rust or damage.

Not sure if I should rebuild it before putting it in the car or just slap it in and start doing more 2nd gear donuts
