I'm just wondering if there is a market out there for carbon fiber hoods for the 1st or 2nd gen RX-7. I know someone who can make them if he has a market for them. They will be one hell of a lot lighter, look pretty cool (matter of opinion I guess), need to be held down by hood pins, probably cost between 500 and 900 dollars. Tell me if you are interested.

I think Kimo3 started a thread similar to this one a little while ago. I know he is interested in one. I think it would look great, but I am not in the market for one.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago, here is the thred with the results.https://www.nopistons.com/forums/ind...=2830&hl=kimo3

I had thought of making some fiberglass hoods that didnt require pins, but I dont know how many people would buy if it would be worth the trouble or not.

Any examples? I was thinking of a fiberglass turbo hood, but to be honest, I dont know if there would be a weight advantage or not versus aluminum. And I guess a cowl induction hood is no good either??

The Mariah riser hood is supposed to be like a cowl induction hood, but it's more subtle than most:

It had tons of paint on top of it, my body shop guy told me. Looked like someone hit a deer, He was able to fix it and it doesn't look bad. He did a good job, even for the price I paid, free https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png C |

Someone tell me what those vents are for? Im seriously considering making a fiberglass TII hood. Now I need to take a good look at one and someone needs to have one I can mold from- in excellent condition of course.

Maybe Ill just surprise people, you know what they say about opinions, lol. If people want to buy one they will, and if they dont, oh well. I prefer more subtle design elements, ones that never go out of style, but thats just me. And as for kevlar- there would be zero purpose in making it out of Kevlar, its only a hood, this would be fiberglass matting but made with a high strength epoxy resin instead of polyester resin so it wont be as prone to print-thru. One can make as elaborate hood as they want, but how many would I sell to make my efforts worthwhile? So im going for a stock looking hood so it wont look stupid on a car that isnt fast, that doesnt have any other body modifications, and so I can keep the cost at a target of about $400 or so.
