Well I was driving home last night and I started to notice that every time I would go into 1st gear I would start to hear a high pitch whirling sound! Even at the beginning of second gear I hear this sound. At higher RPM's ( still in second gear) the sound would go away. As of right now I'm thinking my throwout bearing is starting to go. But before I start troubleshooting. I wanted the hear want anyone else has to say about this situation.

the throwout brearing will usually only make noise when you have your foot on the clutch

if the noise occurs when you are in gear with the clutch fully engaged, the noise is not your pilot bearing, and not likely your throwout bearing.... it's probably your transmission.

check your trans oil, maybe it's leaking or needs to be changed.

Oh lord i'm not alone. I just bought my car 6 months ago and like the lazy idiot I am I decided to take my friends word that the tranny/rear end fluid was just changed. I went from a fresh tranny to having 1/2 noise to having 1/2/3/5/R noise to pulling my tranny for rebuild. Change the fluid and pray -=)

yeah my trans started makin noise after I replaced the pilot bearing and clutch/PP first time... turned out it was the front seal leaking and the fluid got real low.... ended up coming apart for new seals again and got a aluminum flywheel at the same time.. all better now, just a bit more notchy than before.
