I bought a 90 GXL, it is okay, but when shifting into 1st, it makes no noise, doesn't engage, nothing. What could it be? All other gears work fine. In Drive it takes off in 2nd. Somebody give me some help, please

one of the clutches that makes the gears change is probably worn out. Take it to a shop or ditch it and buy a manual. I think it's that your car is angry at the world because it's an auto.

 

yeah it needs a tranny
