i was wondering whicxh gas is the best for me to put in my second gen non turbo.

I;ve been hearing both high octane and regular

Rob x-7 01-13-2005 06:08 PM

regular, 87/89, low octane is best for a NA

Apex13B 01-13-2005 09:47 PM

yeah my vert ran GREAT with 87 in it

B-ROB 01-14-2005 04:57 PM

Is there a particular reason why 87/89 works better???

Rob x-7 01-14-2005 06:20 PM

higher octane fuel burns slower, a NA car does not burn it as efficiently as a turbo car would.

DJ Blu 01-15-2005 03:33 AM

so a turbo 2 should run premium?

Apollorx7 01-15-2005 07:10 AM

yes

Look up the definition of octane. The answer will be very obvious. Sorry..its a "teach a man to fish" thing.

The FC-Models from 1985 to 1987 need Regular Gas. 91 Octane

From the Facelift 1988 to end they need all Premium. 95 Octane

Compresson ratio before Facelift N/T 9,4:1 Turbo: 8,5:1

Compression ratio after Facelift N/T 9,7:1 Turbo 9,0:1

We do this so in Germany

B-ROB 01-15-2005 12:24 PM

Just found this link about the octane to compression ratio relationship. Helped answer my question, might help answer a few others.

The one thing not included in the above ^^^ stated article is regarding turbocharged vehicles. Despite the lower compression ratio, they need to use higher octane becuase of the forced air induction to reduce knock. Heat produced by turbochargers will cause 87 octane fuel to combust prematurely and therefore create that knocking sound.

Maybe. Our Regular is 91, Premium 95, Superpremium 98 and we get 100 too, but this is to expensive, and an rotary didn`t needs it.

it is. theres 2 ways to rate octane mon, and ron. one ends up being higher than the other, i forget which. japan and europe use the higher one, we average both ratings. so euro spec 95 is close to our 93...

will putting 87 or 93 damage my car at all? i am most likely going to put 87 in it because its cheaper and i hear rotaries like lower octane but now you guys go me thinking because i think the compression ratio in the s5 (89-91) rx-7's is higher. will that make a difference?

no the tuning on the fc is really consrvative. if you're running more timing or something than 92 can be worth a couple extra hp

SPD Racing FC 01-18-2005 01:38 PM

i run 80 oct. mexi gas in my n/a..lol
