What Is An Oil Metering Pump

i took my car to a local shop the specializes in RX-7 Care and Repair b/c i had a loss of power after i hit 3000 RPMs., and a check engine light on.. they told me that my Oil Metering Pump was bad.( the pump that squirts oil on the apex seal) ?? i have clld around to several other places and no one can even tell me what that is.. i even had once place suggest that i made it up.. Does anyone out there know what it is.. ?? or where i can get one??

It's a pump that meters oil. . .



Yeah it's the pump that squirts oil into the rotors. You have a check engine light so I'm guessing S5.



Probably going to have to go to Mazdatrix or the like, that or get one used...

It's somewhat like 2 stroke oil injection... the OMP shoots a given amount of oil (through the oil injectors) onto the rotors, the amount of oil it pumps is based on RPM.

good luck, i think the fsm shows to take pretty much everything off of the front of the motor to replace the mop

its not all that bad just kinda a bitch where its at. Take out air pump and you should be good to get it out. I removed mine from the top last time.

Hey guys thanks a bunch i am shopping around and ifound one for under 100.00 for a Turbo Model of my car.. i DONT have a turbo.. does it make a diff for this specific part?

one for under a hundred might be difficult, ive heard theyre not cheap. check ebay and thepartstrader and rx7world.com and mazdarecycling.com

no i did find one under a hundred on ebay i just want to make sure before i "buy it now" that i can put a Turbo OMP on my NONTurbo car.. i know they are both for 2nd Gen RX's ...

I hope you're not driving the car around with that thing broken. If you have to, in the meantime premix some tcw-3 2 cycle oil in with your gas.

89-92 are all the same oil metering pumps, and $100 dollars is a steal, they usually retail for over $1000 dollars.
