i have 2 s4 throttle bodies. they look the same but the tps is different. heres what i want to know. im doing the TPS mod. my old throttle body has some kind of linkage on the front side that goes down the front of the block near the front cover of the engine and is attatched to some kind of lever with round things and what looks to be little vaccuum lines. it opens somthing up near the front cover. but the throttle body im using doenst have the hookup for this linkage. but there both s4's... and this one im using has 2 little round TPS sensors as opposed to my 1 TPS sensor on my car... do i need that linkage??? what does it open up?

leave the throttle body alone, the car runs great with everything intact

The linkage is for the OMP. If your TB doesnt have that linkage and has the 2-sensor TPS, its an S5, not an S4. Dont **** with it.

The TB with 2 TPS's on it, is an S5. The rod that goes "down to the front cover" is for your metering oil pump. You need that unless you want to premix.

ahh ok, i just took the linkage off the s4 and put it on the s5, so i can keep that omp linkage. and the wiring for the tps that i need (the one that i need) is the same as one of the s5's, so i just spliced those in and did the TPS mod to it.

i have a feeling youre gonna either

A) create more problems then you can imagine by doing something you obviously have no knowledge of and seem to ask questions too late about, and dont have the patience to wait for the correct answers

or

B) need a new motor soon because of A).

i think kevin is exactly right. you have all of these other problems that youve made like 20 threads about but now youre going to start mixing s5 parts into your s4 and its going to be many times harder to track down those problems youre having.

I'm just going to reiterate what others have said.

S4 TB only has TPS sensor, and it isn't a full range sensor...it's basically either a little throttle or WOT...that's how the ECU interprets the signal from the S4 TPS. The linkage can be taken from the S4 and put on the S5, but why...the S5 TB is no better.

S5 TB has two TPS sensors that are considered FULL range and WOT. Meaning it tells a percentage of the throttle being open to the ECU at all times, and the S5 ECU interprets the signal this way. The S5 cars use an electric Oil Metering pump..thus the linkage was discarded.

If you put the S5 Full range TPS on the S4 than S4 ECU will not interpret the signals correctly causing sparatic accleration, bad idle, poor gas mileage, etc etc...

These are things you really should not dive into unless you have a thorough understanding of how the systems work. It may seem like a great idea to pop your motor so you have an excuse to get a better one, but judging by your level of knowledge on these cars, it may take some time before you were able to get a performance motor running in good shape. I'm not trying to insult, I'm just trying to keep another rx7 on the road a little longer....

No performance differences between S4 and S5 TBs that I can think of.
