can some one tell me what this is for , i think it has coolant in it,it is located on the pasenger side on the firewall. It says sub zero on it and something about 90% coolant and it is not full ,do i need to fill this up.

Cold Start System

It's completely USELESS, it was designed to keep the intake from freezing up in approx -40C weather, Mazda later recalled them and said remove it, they don't work, as far as I remember.

ColinRX7 06-23-2005 10:47 PM

FYI the coolant in that bottle is in NO WAY connected to your motor cooling system it's entirely separate.

Rob x-7 06-23-2005 10:48 PM

Mazda stole the idea from the military

redturbo 06-23-2005 10:57 PM

so i dont need to worry about that thing being fullor if it works ,thanks for all the replies.

TrboSpdAnt 06-24-2005 02:10 AM

Nope! None, what-so-ever. It's SUPPOSED to be filled with some methylene concoction, or some ****, but you haven't gotta worry about that.

Actually 90% anti-freeze 10% water

Any anti-freeze has ethylene-glycol in it

cymfc3s 06-24-2005 10:47 PM

My 86 had that. Im not really sure why mazda did it. Just another one of their crack smoking ideas (like the logicon)

DJ Blu 06-24-2005 11:17 PM

don't even bother w/it. its the zero degree start i think. I don't even think the canadians even bother w/it.

yeah they had a perfectly reliable one, that worked. then they decided to make the fc one, that doesnt, why? or like the rx8, i mean you're not supposed to be able to start it, wtf are you thinking?

RevRex-7 06-25-2005 02:32 AM

I fill mine up with NOS. Not Nitro.

'='

ColinRX7 06-25-2005 09:23 AM

Canadians don't use them, they don't work

Mine is removed, my car started up perfect every time in -30 C weather without it

89 Rag 06-25-2005 04:13 PM

Mine just leaked like a big dog, I was pulling my hair out trying to find the coolant leak in the main system, I must have bleeded the damn thing 10 times.

nismo convert 06-25-2005 06:54 PM

i started mine aswell with out it in -30*c weather, i also burned mine, 20 year old plastic smells good being burnt.

ColinRX7 06-26-2005 09:42 AM

haha why did you burn it

rx7man629 06-26-2005 10:05 AM

How do you completely remove the cold start system?

ColinRX7 06-26-2005 12:45 PM

Fabricate a blockoff plate for the intake manifold, or tap and set-screw the vacuum holes for it in the manifold.

Tapping and set-screw method is less bulky and more fun.. and more clean

lol, burned it! I spiked mine in the dumpster once I removed it, what a waste of engineering time that must have been.
