Went Down On My Car...
#1
okay, so i inspected things, and it doesnt look to good down there; i got lots of work ahead of me.
first off, i have no idea if the diff mounts are any good. the diff felt secure, and the mount looked good i guess. however, i did find the source of another problem: my car oscillates when i let off and then apply the gas. so i felt the driveshaft, and yep, HUGE amounts of play. here are my results:
1. with the ebrake on and in gear, no play in drive shaft
2. with the ebrake off and in gear, play in wheels (2-3 deg) while the shaft remained stationary
3. with the ebrake on and out of gear, wheels remained locked (duh) and i could rotates the shaft 5-10 deg.
4. with free movement, if i oscillated the wheels back and forth, i was met with pings and what not as there was hesitation before the wheels engaged the shaft.
any ideas? obviously its in the diff, but where?
i have included some pics; i got the digi cam, figure why not use it.

and finally, i think i have realized the source of another problem: rear end bump steer. i figured it was due to old toe bushings, and this pic sums that up. i got the derilin RB bushings, just a matter of time before i put them in

mine doesn't steer when i apply throttle, just knocks, the sound of play in my drivetrain. its annoying, and i think that combined with a loose muffer and old rear bushings is the source of my noisy problems. oh well, at least my car is fast and handles great, less the misaligned front end
if only i had no job and lots of money...

i rotated my driveshaft, no noise. i tried moving it around, no play. the joints seemed good, all i noticed was the play between the shaft and the wheels. i'd rather not throw away $350 b/c i "think" the joints are bad.

well the diff mount is bad if you can push up on the front of the diff and it moves. if your driveshaft "pings" when you turn it is prolly u joints. the 5-10 degrees of play in the rear end is pretty normal, its the back lash between the ring and pinione`
