i have had an Autometer water temp gauge for a while, but the sender that it comes with is too big and supposedly they dont make one as small as the one the 2nd gen needs. I have an 88 GXL. Anyone have any suggestions OTHER than drill a tapping to make it bigger, im definetely NOT gonna do that.

get a guage pod, or mount it else where....I've seen cars that had guages all over the place (not nessacary at all) but the put them on the dash, in the place of the ash tray, pods, wherever they can find a spot.....

The one that the Autometer comes with to replace the OEM one in the car is WAY too big, and they supposedly dont make an adapter. Im basically asking of the gauge will work accurately with the stock sender(i doubt it) or if there is some sort of adapter i can buy at home depot or something?? Theres gotta be someone that put a temp gauge on their car :confused:



Another thing. What are regular running temps for an N/A 13B???

lol.... I was asleep this morning, sorry... uhm, I dunno, engines normally run at 180 - 190 degrees... I'd hook it up and see what it reads, wouldn't suggest relying on it til you know for sure....you have problems with overheating or anything? and did your other temp guage work fine and have a good reading before or is taht the reason you're switching? if your car didn't have a problem before then I'd say hook it up and see what it reads.... up to you though...

I have an electric fan installed, and even before that, the Stock gauge wouldnt read very accurate. Its usually just 1/4 way up, and lately it seems to be grounding out or something, cause the signal drops causing the needle to drop. I did try it out with the stock sender and it read about 210f and the car was sitting for almost 2 hours, so it was abviously not accurate. I guess im going to call them up again and make sure they dont make something to fit, because i called and got a mixed answer that didnt make much sense from some lady. At last resort i guess ill go to Home depot and see if they make and extension to adapt it.... :wink:



I just got off the phone with AutoMeter and the guy i spoke to was cool enough to send me the diagram he was looking at. Seems i overlooked something in the Haynes Manual. There is the Sender that is the one i been messing with, but there is ANOTHER one right in back of the Water pump. Haynes book calls it "Water Thermo Sensor" thats wut the Tech support guy told me i have to change, looking at it, the sender the Autometer gauge comes with willl fit in there perfectly. What F#cked me up was that the manual clearly states the other one is for the gauge. Imma change it this weekend. will let all u know how it goes....

STILL NOTHING. the guys at autometer dont know jack sh1t. i think im f#cked with this gauge.

I've got a AutoMeter on mine. I drilled and tapped the Therostat hosing. There was an area of reinforced aluimun which worked perfectly.

I needed 2 Temp sensors, One for my guage and one for my Haltech. I drilled the factory hole and taped that for one of my sensors. I can't recall now if there was a sensor there or just re-enforced metal. Anyway I removed the Thermostat housing and pulled the Thermostat. I pushed a rag into the hole to catch the shavings. I drilled a hole tapped it with Threads. I installed the Haltech Sensor there. This isn't a picture of mine but I mounted it right in this location. (This is a Turbo motor shown).

For my second sensor I drilled my Thermostat housing (which comes off easy enough) and has a re-eforced metal area right in it. I tapped a hole for that also. Mine is the model that has the small radiator cap on the housing neck. I picked up a spare at the local wrecking yard for a buck.



You can clearly see the Brass fitting screwed into the thermostat housing in this picture, You can also see the re-enforced metal there that's it's tapped into:
