i need to purchase a good, strong, solid 13b series four non turbo engine for my car. i live in ohio and no one i can find here has one. i found a few at various places on the net. but they are all about 800 miles away from me and i cant visually inspect them myself. how do i get the owner of the engine to prove to me its a good engine, has good compression? what would you do or say? i dont wanna purchase the engine and then install it and find out it s a worthless p.o.s. i just paid for. i owe 2600.00 on my rx7 and i dont wanna take a huge loss by selling it the way it is. i just need a good engine, mileage doesnt matter as long as it runs good for whoever i sell it too (theres only 92,000 miles on the odometer) and the car is mint except for cracked leather seats. i plan on purchasing a turbo 2 i finally found, just needs a new engine and i want to put a J-spec 13bt in it. should whoever i get the engine from sign some sort of written agreement/contract/warranty? thanks for helping me later

i know, i know but i can only get about 500 for the car the way it is, it just needs a engine that runs good, once the new engine is in it gets parked with a for sale sign in the window, if i spend 2 grand or more on a rebuilt engine and i owe 2600 on the car, with everything said and done say a total of 5 grand now,the n/a rx-7s arent worth 5 grand the last time i checked even with 92,000 miles on the odometer. with new used engine inside say 600 bucks, and with what i owe on the car comes out to about 3200. i can ask for 3200 and take 2700 and only be out 500 bucks. An n/a rx7 takes a lot of money to make quick and reliable, thats why i want a Turbo II, with a few simple mods it wil be fast enough for me,**** just stock im sure it would satisfy my lil speed addiction.

well its hard because you cant judge the condition of the rotor oil seals or the coolant seals, unless its running in the car. spin it by hand and mark sure it has comression

maybe rotary resurrection can help you out with a working used engine just to get the car sold.
