I own a 1989 RX-7 GTUs N/A with 144,000 miles, and I'm looking for more power. The only problem is a shortage of cash. Right now I want to get it rebuilt+street-ported, but that won't be for a while.

Anyone have any suggestions about what will give me the most power for the least amount of money? Also, where can I get the engine rebuilt for fairly cheap? I'd do it myself, i just don't feel confident about doing it right, and the last thing I want to do is screw-up my engine.

I'm pretty sure there's a step by step thread about this under FAQ's.

I've only got about $550 in intake and cat-back. That should add 10-20 HP. If you want to dump $1200 on exhaust you could get a 35 hp gain.

Is a rebuild all that necessary? I have over 140k, and the compression is "really good"-mazda mechanic.
