Parking brake on or off, car on or off, in gear or neutral, when the button is pushed it just beeps, but the top doesn't go up. What to do?

My car is at home so I can't duplicate the scenario right now, but it sounds like maybe the parking brake plug has been disconnected, if you pull the P-brake plastics off the plug is plainly visible at the lower rear of the assembly, the plug side should have one single red wire. If the top is suck in the down position and you need it up before you can get it working, there are screws in the side of each motor which release the clutch mechanism's so you can put the top up manually.

Get a coupe?

Baldy 04-18-2005 02:09 PM

I've already got a coupe!

Thanks, I'll try that tonight. The parking brake light has been coming on even with the brake off, while driving. Could that be related?

thats the problem, theres a short or bad connection with the sensor somewhere.

It's nice to have the top up to keep honest ppl honest, it's too easy to flick a lit cig, dump a soft drink, or piss in a convertible with the top down, to name a few things. Theft is a different story, even if the top is up your **** is getting jacked one way or another.

GreyGT-C 04-18-2005 02:40 PM

i drove a Jeep that had no top for almost 6 years.... i know the hazards of no top.....

Baldy 04-18-2005 02:48 PM

I realized something this weekend. We had gone to the beach, and decided to leave the top down, and put purse/wallet/radio face in the trunk. But the stupid trunk release is in plain view. I guess there's no way to make it so the trunk can only be opened with the key? I mean besides disconnecting the cable.

One beep with a pause or two?

yeah you can lock the trunk by turning the key to the left. also, leaving the windows up leaves a lot of the inside unreachable, so leave them up with the alarm on and it will discourage most theives

the turning the key to the left thing is a valet feature. doing this diables the trunk release and you can not open it with the valet key, something most people dont have(but i do), so if you have the car valeted (sp?) they cant get in with the key they have or the release

Did you get a chance to fix it? I forgot to try and duplicate the problem on my car when I got home.

Baldy 04-19-2005 01:35 PM

forgot about it yesterday

Edna 04-20-2005 11:08 PM

It went up today. We did nothing. I just got home from driving it around and thought....Hmmmm.....I'll try it again. And it went up. But we still need to fix the light(brake). I hated it being down. Fl, spring, a lot of pollen.

phinsup 04-20-2005 11:51 PM

I have the same strange issue, you can manually put the top up and down, there is a phillips screw on each side, turn it to release the motors.

Good to know!!!
