New to the list, glad to be an owner of an rx-7, one of a kind... Sorry to post this but ive got some specific questions on goin turbo. Working with an 88 vert. Looking to turbocharge, not sure if i want to swap the Tll or turbo the NA.

Does the NA tranny bolt right up to the Tll block?

Are the puters interchangeable?

Is the fuel pump interchangeable?

If the puters dont swap how does everyone feel about haltech and SAFC?

Has anyone attempted to boost an NA? How did (didnt) it work out?

Anything else i should consider? Heh -- and dont tell me to get the t ll, i like the vert, ya wont budge me on that...

Thanks in advance

Mike

the fuel pumps interchange, the ecu's almost do, most people use a turbo harness.

the haltech is nice, it makes big swaps easier

1. nice job on picking the rx-7, i have no regrets choosing the FC, it's a great car

2. the turbo II tranny is alot stonger than the NA tranny, you'll need to swap out the driveshaft and tranny with a turbo version, or you'll blow up the NA in no time. also i dunno if the vert came with a lsd, but i would look into that, i believe that the turbo has a different gear ratio

3. turboing the NA has been done, and there's a write up on the rx7club fourm, but if you're new to working on cars i wouldn't recomend it

4. the ECU on the turbo II needs to be swapped into your vert, along with wiring, blah blah blah

5. make sure you pick the right engine, the 86-88 and 89-91 engines have little changes here and there, but you might as well convert everything over to 89-91 as long as you're swapping stuff

Kevin Landers has a write up on the whole conversion, part 1 part 2.

alot can go wrong, but it's also been done alot and worked out just fine, but i wouldn't suggest it for the weak of heart. you could just get a japanese RX-7 caboriet, it's already a turbo vert .

i'm new, i hope i don't sound like a bighat just posting stuff like this out of the blue

As far as i understood the turbo tranny doesnt match with the na driveshaft... the way i figure ill try to keep the na tranny as long as possible, then sawp to a turbo if it blows, get a custom driveshaft -- heard that racing beat makes a (T2 tranny to NA rear) driveshaft. Sorry i didnt catch it earlier but i just checked the write ups and that answers most of my questions... lookin at the swap now -- anyone had a haltech unit before? how much am i looking at, are ya happy with it?

on a personal note i do body work -- dont extensive expirience with mechanical side, have less expirince with rebuilding, and much less with rotary's -- but im learning, cant stop me now baby

Thanks for the help -- much appreciative

N/A drivetrain is not as strong as the T2 components so it would be better to swap it all..

As far as engine goes, well, I guess you could look at the write ups mentioned above and decide which would be a better choice

my way would involve the least amount of work. i'd leave the na driveline until it broke. i kindof have a hankering to turbo a stock na 6 port motor too.

The N/A drivetrain would last a long time as long as you didnt

do hard launches.

So the NA tranny will bolt right up to the T2 motor? Thats the biggest, if i blow the NA tranny i cross that bridge at that time... prolly wont be long after i swap the engine, 3rd gear synch. is already goin up...

Thanks

Do the complete swap from a TII and never look back. People have done this and it is the best way to go.

I'm sure down the road you'll want to add more boost, and the TII swap would have been worth it from the start.
