I'm gathering parts for a Turbo'd N/A project. A friend recently acquired a turbo kit for his MX-6, but is thinking of selling it. I would be picking up the turbo, intercooler, and bov from this kit if I purchased it.

During a brief conversation, my friend mentioned that it is a t3 sized turbo with "something done to it." My question is, how does this compare to the stock turbo? Will it fit on a stock TII exhaust manifold? Is this worth getting vs. a stock turbo?

I'm only guessing, but I think its a slightly smaller turbo. I'm going to be boosting an N/A block, and only expect to boost 6lbs, so a smaller turbo for even faster response isn't a problem, just as I don't need the biggest turbo available.

Thanks for any and all replies.

Too late to edit...

Friend now says that it came off another mazda, just not sure which one, not sure if mazda turbo's are mostly interchangeable or not, just adding info as I recieve it.

Edit#2: Now says its an ihi vj11. Quick Google search shows this as comming off the 2.2 MX6 / Ford Probe.

way way way too small. if you want a larger turbo than stock you're looking at a full to4

I don't need one larger than stock, I just need one that isn't maxed at 6psi and will bolt to the stock exhaust manifold.

nothing wrong with wanting to try out a turbo-to-NA project, just keep in mind that its cheaper just to buy a T2 and will be able to handle double the HP the NA can...

i dont think there are any other turbos that will bolt on to the stock turbo manifold. im pretty sure the RX-7 turbos have its own footprint thats between a t3 and t4

Thanks, thats the info I was looking for. Looks like I'll just use the stock turbo. .

As for turboing my N/A, I'm not looking for a ton of power... if I get 200hp I'll be happy, if I tweak it some more and get 230 I'll be amazed. 230 would be about the max I would want out of this car.
