Hopefully pretty soon I'm going to start rebuilding my '90 TII. I'm not sure yet but, the turbo might not be in good condition. Or, it might need refurbishing. Anyhow, I will not have enough money to buy a new turbo, (what with the engine swap and such). Regardless, it would be a big help if you guys could give me the specs or the model or a place to get a rebuild kit to get that thing back to original working order (hopefully cheap).

THanks,

-Rob

Get a rebuild kit from ebay about $90-110 and do it yourself. it not to hard clean it(glass bead) throw away all the bad stuff and replace it with the good stuff from the kit and BAM you got a new turbo

Find a Diesel shop and buy a t3/t4 rebuild kit. $85-ish

Well...the idea of a d.i.y sounds pretty good to me. But what would the cost be of not having it balanced correctly? would it affect spool up time? top end? max turbo rpm? or would it just cause it to blow up? Cost is a big issue to me (i'm a broke highschool student and trying to do an entire engine swap into my opel gt on the money i will make this summer). Anyhow, thanks for the info, Ill start lookin around.

If your in doubt just pay someone to do it for you.... doing it yourself and messing would suck.

BUT

if you have extra cash get a turbo and rebuild kit from ebay..... about $250 do it you self and if it works take you old one spend $90 on a rebuild kit and sell your old one one ebay for about $250-350 and make a few buck in the process.

Yes, this does seem to be the case. But, would it be adviseable to just leave it as is (I'm not sure about the turbos reliability) or at least take a look at it while I've got the engine out anyway? It seems to me that the latter is the best alternative and maybe I'll be lucky...but I'm thinkin not likely...
