I have my turbo apart right now, figured I would check it out and clean it up. On the hot side, in the exhaust turbine housing there are a few cracks. None go all the way through or anything, they are only on the inside. I was aware that cracks on the manifold were common, just wondering if these cracks were common also. I also had a decent amount of oil/residue inside the cool side, and on the fins and when I cracked it open it smelled pretty nasty of burnt oil. I was thinking this wasn't right, just wondering. Thanks.

oil on the cool side is giving away a problem...internal failure is comming...might be a good idea to replace it..and those cracks in the turbo...no good...they may be small but they will get bigger as the turbo heats up and cools...and now that they have already started they will grow bigger a little faster... just my .02. just to be on the safe side check the internal waste gate area for cracks too.

those are both fine. on the gasket flange its good if its not going to be an exhast leak, that one is just on its way to being an undivided mainfold.

and the second one is fine, ideally it shouldnt be there but in the real world it doesnt affect anything much
