I was going to say pilot bearing or input shaft

 

you say your tranny has whined for a while now? how many miles are on the tranny it self? how many miles on the clutch? My tranny has whined since i got the car 3 years ago, i had it checked out, and the Trans. mechanic told me that my Bearings are starting to go out, and i could use some fresh syncro gears.. He also told me that the transmission could fail tomorrow or 3 years from now..



I replaced the tranny fluid that day, and it STILL had a whine sound, but it's been three years and the sound has not gotten any worse.



I have since also replaced the clutch/flywheel and throwout bearing and still did not get rid of the noise. so obviously the mechanic wasnt lieing, it's simply a matter of replaceing my tranny bearings.
