tranny rebuild writeup?

I have searched but really havnt found a good writeup on how to rebuild my s4 5 speed tranny. I have went through two of them in the last 2 months, (I'm guessing cause they were used already) and want to start with a nice fresh setup. Does anybody have a link to any information that might be helpful to me?

dont forget the really really long socket for the tail shaft nut.. i got a few na trannies and a few t2/fd trannies i can go threw maybe when i have some time ill do a write up. they are kinda tricky to rebuild but take your time and set the mesurments right and there shouldnt be a problem

So, what rebuild kit do I want? Im really want to rebuild my own this time no matter how long it takes.
I was looking at this, but I really dont know what I need. Does it look like these include everything I need? Would I be able to make the long socket and tools I need?

what you need depends on whats bad/worn. also with that kit i'd be throwing a couple of bearings away and buying from mazda. mazda is $30-50 a bearing so its cheaper to buy that kit. the front input shaft, and center counter shaft bearings in that kit arent as good as the factory ones though. and you need the 2 nuts.
i dont see why you couldnt make a socket, its like 32ish mm and about 3 feet deep, or you can chisel the old nut off.

Geeze .... this is slowly starting to get more and more expensive. If I was to run into any problems, it might be cheaper to just have it sent out and rebuilt. When I open the tranny should I easily be able to tell what is wrong? Would it be a bad idea just to fix whats broken instead of doing a full rebuild? I guess I will just have to open her up and see. I think I will open up both of mine to compare. First I gata make the long socket.. (args) 32mm you say? How sure are you on this?

The T2 driveshaft is larger than your NA unit, thus the flange in the back going to the differential is not compatible.
You can either do the full swap w/ the T2 rear and halfshafts (recommended if you drive hard/race the car at higher RPM) or you can (very dangerously) drill the NA flange to fit the T2 driveshaft... that will only leave you with .30" of metal along the outside of the bolts and a very WEAK point in your driveline..
IMHO... if your are blowing NA trannies, first find out why (are you pushing big HP on it or sustain high RPM launches, etc??) and then decide if you need the T2 swap... if you do.... swap in the tranny, driveshaft, rear end w/ a S4 LSD (mechanical vs later model viscous) and the T2 halfshafts... these are good for around 400hp and your NA should NOT be able to destroy them...
