I am going to flush my tranny out before I put it away for the winter. I dont know when the last time the tranny was flushed and new fluid was put into the car. When I do this, should I use a cheap gear oil to run through and drain a couple of times before I put the good stuff in? Or should I buy several quarts of the good stuff and run that through? BTW, exactly how much does the tranny hold? I think I read about 2 quarts? Another question I have, is what brand of gear oil should I use MMO, Royal Purple, Redline, or other that you have heard of? Thanks for the input.

Oil comes in quarts. For a refrence, there are 4 quarts in a gallon.

A liter is just a tad bigger than a quart.

I really don't think you need to flush it. Just change the oil periodically.

just drain and re-fill, clean it out too much and next thing you know it wont shift right, lol

and unless you have a way to pump the fluid in like with a pressurized dispenser you will give up putting quarts and quarts in there to clean it, I would just go with whatever you can get in the local auto parts store, its gone this long with regular fluid, why change now

Man it's been awhile, I don't think it even holds 2 litres - 1.8 or something.

I don' feel flush is necessary but it wont hurt.

For filling get some 3/8" hose about 3' long and gear clamp a funnel on 1 end. Then thread it down by the firewall from under the hood and into the fill hole. It will still take awhile for the oil to run down the small tube and you keep having to watch for the oil to be running over but this works well

yeah you dont need to flush it, just put some decent synthetic in there, and plan on changing it shorty after you bring the car out in the spring
