Well in a last minute attempt to get my vert runnin .. Since I leave tommorow for AZ.. Carlos got me a tranny and we went to work on the vert.. Got it all done and installed without a hitch.. But when it was time to test drive.. the first four gears go in.. and not 5th or reverse.. the car is driveable and runs well..

So the question now is.. what could be causin the problem? We put new systhetic Lube in the tranny.. The tranny had been just sittin for maybe 6 months or more.. is it possible that it just siezed? any other Ideas..?

The 5th gear synchro is most likely the culprit. When it goes bad it takes out reverse aswell.

The tranny was taken out of a runnin car.. it worked fine in it.. thats why I was thinkin maybe it was siezed.. since it has been sittin so long and had no fluids... but maybe that is the prob.. Damn that sux..

Yo!, that floor was a little hard, my back is sore on weird spots

At least it moves foward.

You can't even place the shift past the 3 and 4th vertical line to get over to the 5th and Rev vertical line on the shifter.

our race car is doing that same thing! i think its the finger on the 5th/ reverse selector shaft. whats wierd is that it worked on the floor with the tailshaft housing off, but not in the car?

the shifter is connected to a rod with a lever on the end. the lever sits in these "fingers" there are 3, one for 1-2, 3-4 and 5th-reverse. when you move the shifter side to side the rod rotates and the lever goes between the 3 'fingers'. when you move the shifter forward or backwards, it makes you pick a 'finger' and it pulls or pushes the finger and its rod->fork->hubset into gear.

it could also be something in the shifter tower itself, ie broken bushing parts, small cats, etc
