On my 87 TII swap, the car seems to idel smoother with the TPS unplugged. When I plug it back in, the idle drops down to around 900 and it seems to sake and twist more with an irratic lump to it. Does it hurt to have the TPS unplugged, or does it have to be plugged in? Thanks for the help.

Yep, you need it.

Yours is broken or just plain out of calibration.

driving with it unplugged isnt good, car will drive like crap.

yours most likely is way out of whack, re-calibrate it correctly and see how it goes. if it still sucks then youll need a new one. you can also just check for dead spots in the sensor itself should be a write-up in the FAQ section of this forum.
