I made the TPS/ECU check light in the FAQ and tested my TPS last night. I jumped the two terminals on the green harness on the drivers side (not the ecu diagnosis harness). And then I plugged the check light into the three terminal harness on the passenger side. Just like the easy to follow directions in our FAQ. Right off I got one quick light, however, the car still idled at 1k+. So I turned the Idle control screw 2 turns out of whack. Once again I got one light to flash indicating the TPS was set correctly. I kept doing this from open to shut and the checker light always gave me the one flashing light.



So is it fairly safe to assume my TPS is shot and giving off the same signal NO MATTER what position it is in?!?

First off, I don't think you jumper any other connectors when you do the TPS check.

Second, the light shouldn't flash, they should be either continuous on or off.

Hook the checker up again, then with your finger, push the TPS plunger in across the entire travel (the ebine doesn't need to be running, but it does need to be in the "ON" position).

If you cannot get lights to change by pushing the plunger by hand, then the TPS is dead, or you have bad wiring.

Also, the idle adjustment screw doesn't change the TPS, you turn the TPS adjustment screw.

twstdmtl - If you have the engine running, you cannot set TPS, and your car will actually bog down some. If your car has a high idle, it might just be a vacuum leak. OR you might need to adjust the variable resistor (I did this and it fixed my idle problem...) and/or the a/f mixture.

The engine was off when I did the TPS check...



But I was turning the wrong screw like a 4RR...



TPS FAQ link I double checked here and it is a common thought, you must jump the green two post terminal on the driver's side. I even checked other websites FAQ's just to make certain.



I will take another reading and post the results. If thats not it I will look for vacuum leaks and shtuff like that. Thanx all

Make sure you turn the screw on the tps itself. If you still have a high idle, you might want to resett the timing to tdc. Once the timing is set, you should be able to lower or raise your idle with the idle adjust screw on top of the throttle body. Then I would re check the tps. Usually vacuum leaks will cause the car to not idle or hard start.

you can also use an ohm meter about 1 ohm @ idle and from 4.5 to 6 ohms @ wot

That will only tell you if it's good or bad, but won't help you set it. For that, you need the test lights or a voltage meter.

I know this is a little off-topic, but I'm having the same idling problem, only mine's ported, and the idle screw on the top of the throttle body doesn't do a thing anymore... How would I go about lowering the idle...It idles at 1.5k and doesn't lower EVER....
