Tires Rubbing?

Recently I have started to hear what sounds like a knocking noise while driving. I could also feel it in the steering wheel. It speeds up and slows down with the wheels, so I know its not in the engine. It goes away if I do almost anything, accelerate, brake, or turn. I only hear it when I am coasting straight ahead, most notably with the clutch out so I am engine braking. I checked the brake disks and the tires, there is nothing there that I noticed. But I wonder if the front tires might be rubbing on the springs.

I have 17x8 rims, unsure of the offset, and 215/45 tires all around. In the rear there is plenty of space between the tires and the springs, but in the front there is less than 1/4" clearance. The noise just started recently. Could this be my alignment going out enough for the tires to start rubbing?

Thnx

Andy

Maybe wheel bearings or something loose in the struts. I had a similar issue and it drove me nuts for a long time. Finally I jacked the car up and shook the wheel as hard as I could and it made the noise...turns out there was play in the strut (easily tightened on an FB...not sure about FC)

The stock springs are tapered. You may be rubbing when the spring compresses, but clearing when the car is just sitting.
