Tire Sizes for some 16's

Looking at some 16x8 with +13 offsets all the way around. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some tire sizes for me that would give the best look/gap fill. They are +13 so will be nice and flush with the fenders. I was thinking of going with like a 215/45/16 to see how it would work. I want a decent sidewall thickness but not so much that it will cause rubbing on the coilovers and not to little that will make the wheels look tiny. Factory wheels and tires are on the car now (S5 5-spoke factory alloys with factory tire sizes, 15's.) But anyway I was hoping someone could shed some light on tire sizes that would likely fit best under the given circumstances. Its one of those wheel deals that just cant be refused.

225's for a little rim protection. 215 for a perfect fit, and 205 for a very slight stretch if needed. 50 sidewall will keep the speedo accuate. A 45 might look funny on a 16. I have some 16x8 +0 offset that have been sitting in my apartment for a good 3-4 months while i try to figure out what to do, and I have tested all 3 sizes with a 50 sidewall.

16x8, 245/45/16



More Rubber the better. Who cares abut look. +13mm offset might mean you need to roll the fenders a bit.

ha well I decided not to go with those rims after all. Just because someone bought them before I could Actually looking at some American racing torqlite 15's. Staggered fitment, 15x7 +0 and 15x8 +0 for the rears. I am aware that they will likely stick out some and because of this have considered some sort of fender flare or "wide body" fenders from either shine or raceonusa. The car like i mentioned before is sitting pretty low, but riding on a stock 15'' set wrapped in 205/60/15's. Eliminates the tire/fender gap nicely and clears enough to not require fender rolling. I actually am all about having a pretty good bit of tire because I have had the low-pro's before and hated them. It felt like riding in a dumptruck that got 25mpg. Anyway, maybe some new input for a set of 15x7 fronts staggered with 15x8 rears.

Your going to need over fenders with that offset. A 30mm offset would be best for an 8" wheel.



To figure out the best tire and wheel combination, convert the tire width to inches (225mm / 25.4 = 8.86"), then subtract 1" (8.86 - 1 = 7.86"). So an 8" wheel works best with a 225 tire, and a 205 works best with a 7" wheel. More tire doesn't necessarily mean more performance. A 225/50/16 will keep the speedo within 1% of the stock size.

Sure it does. In every aspect.



The only downside I can possibly think of an increase in unsprung weight. With careful selection of wheels and tires you could be lighter than stock. Even if it got heavier I would gladly trade up to 255 wide tires all around if it would fit.

If you think squeezing a 255 on an 8" wheel is going to improve performance, you live in another reality. Turn-in and grip will suffer because the tire is too wide for the wheel. A 255mm tire was designed for a 9" wheel.

Notice I said "if it would fit". My original suggestion of 245 wide still stands. I too know that a 255 tire is meant for a 9" rim.
