Rob, I've seen your paint first hand and have nothing ill to say about.. I dont know if maybe i was just confused by the multiple photos that iceblue put up as to what his actual finished product looked like, but its looks um... odd to say the least....

I wont lie, I didnt paint my engine bay... there are times when I am more than humble enough to know I cant do certain things, and paint is one of them.. if it were a $300 project car like my FB is, than sure.. i'll spray it myself and it doesnt turn out bad at all, but if I want perfection, I go to a professional and I did.. he used a basecoat/clearcoat upon my request to get the desired finish I wanted... I'm sure it will be durable enough for my setup and looks spectacular in the light (lol, yea... light in an engine bay.. i know) between the two, I think the full black engine bay looked best ..dunno who's that was, i think it was rob's... the pinkish/white-ish/blackish engine bay came across like many other rice cars I've seen out there... inconsistent. I prefer a wet look and a nice flat paint; that other stuff looked extremely rough ...even if it isnt in person...

rx7 people are the only people who would make the paint shinier UNDER the hood.... i did it too

I bought some Simple Green, and some semi-gloss black Dupicolor spray cans. I went to clean it, and started with nylon and wire brushes.

All the black paint (from previous owner) came off so easily, we just decided to scrub it all off and keep the stock red engine bay. Took maybe 1.5 to 2 hours.

Since the car is blue, and the bay is red, maybe I'll paint some engine accents white. That way if anyone criticizes it, I can accuse them of being unpatriotic.

I'm getting ready to do my engine bay as well... But, I won't be going "balls deep" like you guys are having a pissing contest over. I will, however, be cleaning like a mofo with whatever gets rid of the junk. Probably simple green/purple power, then I'm going to scotchbrite the hell out of it, then sand it with 220 real good... then sand it down some more with 400.. mask everything off....then primer it... then sand it again... then primer it again... then sand a little.. then paint a bunch of times.

Thats my plan. Its cheap, non-complicated, and will probably work pretty damn well. Chances are the paint will last longer than I will own this particular car... I'm not going to beat myself up over it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
