I was checking the timing on my 89 t2 yesterday and L1,L2 and T1 were all firing on the same mark on the crank and T2 was off god knows where. Someone tell me that this is messed up... The haynes manual had two different points for L1, T1.

L1 and L2 should be firing at the same time. T1 should fire about 15 degrees later at idle. T2 is after that...I think.

the 2 leading sparks fire at the same time? but the rotors aren't aligned....so why is the spark?

The leading sparks fire at the same time, but in fact when L1 needs to be fired the spark on L2 has no effect since there's nothing to fire. L2 needs to fire 180 degrees later so it's easier and cheaper to fire both leading plugs every 180 degrees instead of using 2 independent coils to fire each plug every 360 degrees.

For the trailing sparks, since it's about 15 deg. later if you fire the second trailing plug at the same time you would now fire the air/fuel mixture but at the wrong time (too much early). So you need 2 independent coil for the trailing sparks (180 degrees between T1 and T2).

Damn, that actually makes sense.

Thanks

I just hope that EvilT2 will need more serious problems before giving up. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I've been trying to find the power loss problem on mine for a long time and changed almost every sensors and external parts and still looking to solve it. But one thing is positive now, I know how it works. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
