im planning on swapping the tII tranny in my n/a s4. while im in there im going to do the clutch. to me it would make sence to use the clutch for the n/a right? and is there anything else i would need to do (TII driveline, wiring, etc...) and i would need to get the tranny from a 86-88 right? i heard someone saying that the TII eccentric shaft has 23 splines and the n/a has 22, will the tranny even work?

im pretty sure you'll have to use a TII clutch and flywheel.

im not sure about the wiring. i cut all my wiring to my tranny though. didnt affect it at all.

but i have a TII motor and N/A tranny.

You have to switch :

clutch slave-cylinder

flywheel

clutch

driveshaft

startermotor

from a TII, I do not think i has to be from a S4, but not sure.

If you want to do it "proper" you should also switch the rear end from a TII, but you can get away with simply enlarging the holes in the mounting-flange on the driveshaft. I've done this, and it works fine on my car.

ok, this sounds like a pain in the *** if you dont have the whole clip... later down the road im probably gonna do the whole TII swap, my buddy just has an extra tII trans layin around and i was thinking about tossing it in. can i get feedback from anyone who has used the TII trans with the n/a s4? my car only has 78k original miles on it, but the tranny is starting to make noise so i was gonna replace it. should i grab an n/a tranny you think? or is it worth it to get all the TII stuff? thanks i appreciate the info guys.

if your not making a lot of power, dont do it. n/a trannys are cheap. replace it only if it brakes.

most of the time when you buy a TII motor it comes with the tranny anyways. so you might just be wasting money.

this is just my opinion though.

If you are not planning on a lot more horsepower down the road, just find a na trans. It can be a lot of work sourcing and assembling all the right TII parts. I did it to mine because I want to put in a 13B bridgeport or 20B streetport at some point, and my clutch and slave cylinder needed replacing. Besides I wanted a lighter flywheel and they are easier to find for the turbo trans. Plus I already had the turbo trans and driveshaft lying around.

Hope this helps.
