This is a good post. I bought the Atkins video and it is atrocious!...they don't express enough in the video about proper clearancing of the parts in the engine, which is absolutely essential during a rebuild to keep compression numbers high. I have heard differing opinions on their apex seals and oil ring seals. I plan on using mostly oem seals, after all, Mazda has done more R&D than anyone, right?



There are areas in your project that you can save money on, for example, I use a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, which is a popular one to use, bought it on eBay for $100. I bought a Megasquirt standalone kit (building it as we speak) including complete wiring harness, injector pigtails, etc. for about $400, the tuning software is Windows-based, you can use an inexpensive laptop and do the tuning yourself easily. You can even download the tuning software to your pc for free so you can play with the software and familiarize yourself with it.



As for bigger injectors, a standalone is recommended for that, the stock ecu doesn't correct for richer mixtures very well and spark timing is critical on a rotary to keep power and reliability in check, especially at higher than stock boost levels. The stock ecu also cuts off fuel to the rear rotor at (I think) around 8 psi.



I will be using my TII as a street/ strip car only, I am building a hybrid S5 turbo with T04b compressor and housing, stock S5 exhaust manifold (ported and polished) air/ water intercooler, Megasquirt, Racing Beat exhaust, this should give me 350-400 rwhp, enough to kill a few Hondas and C5s.
