I've had both. I still have the header. The header is a more powerful modification. Noticeably more powerful. If you still have the OEM precat and main cat, the precat is probably empty. Over time, the catalyst material (it looks like netting) breaks away from the precat shell and lodges itself in the openng of the main cat. If nothing else, you may wish to drop the precat, reach into maincat, an remove that exhaust resticting netting.

So you suggest I go for the top setup ...

- 1986-92 RX-7 (Non-turbo) Streetable Header/Collector

- Power Pulse Presilencer 1986-88 RX-7 Manual - Non-turbo

- 1986-92 Non-turbo Street Exhaust System

The only thing stopping me from placing my order right now is I'm afraid of getting pulled over every time I drive out of my driveway lol. Oh yeah, and I don't quite understand the whole 5th & 6th port installation part of it.

What year car? If it's an 89+ the six port actuators run off the air pump. If it's an S4, the presilencer has an air tube which, will alledgedly work but someone with an S4 would be better positioned to give you the voice of experience.

Don't forget the O2 sensor bung. If you just order the header from RB it won't have one. If you order fro Dave Gibson, he will weld one (if you remember to request it). If you decide to run the header with a cat, you'll need a short pipe fabbed because the header isn't long enough, but that short pipe is an excellent place to put the O2 sensor

I went to Dave's website (http://www.speedmachineperformance.com) and I sent an email to sales@speedmachineperformance.com. Now I'm just waiting for him to get back to me with what he recommends.

Thanks for all your help.

BTW my car's an '88 SE.

When did RB stop putting an O2 bung in the streetable header? The last three headers I've bought for different year RX-7's all not only have the bung but a piece of wire and a connecter to replace/extend from the stock location.

Personally I prefer duals to singles any day. But there are single systems. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, the A’pexy N1 is a single setup. They've got it over at rx7.com ... Click Me
Yeah but that exhaust is for the t2, i have an 87 se.

Hey everybody,

Thanks for all your help. I've pretty much decided to go with this setup(All By Racing Beat):

- 1986-92 RX-7 (Non-turbo) Streetable Header/Collector

- Power Pulse Presilencer 1986-88 RX-7 Manual - Non-turbo

- 1986-92 Non-turbo Street Exhaust System

If it wasn't for all your help I'd still be going crazy trying to figure what the hell I should do. Everyone's help was very appreciated

Now if only I could figure out what to do for an intake lmao ...

Thanks guys!

If you don't feel confident installing it yourself, I'm sure any muffler shop could do it. There's really not much different about the physical aspect of a rotary exhaust, what I mean is it's still just nuts and bolts, and rubber hangers. The hardest part would probably be removing the old stuff, as it gets rusted in place.
