Is There A Lambo Kit For The Fc3s?!

Hi all!

I'm a little new here, as the name implies. I bought two 2nd gen Rx-7's(1986 & 1988, both non-turbo) about a year ago. I plan to have the '88 running/driving in a couple more months.( The '86 has blown apex seals in the rear chamber, but it still runs!) I've been able to get some good info from this forum just by searching. This time I decided to just ask. I apologize if this is something that has allready been discused elswhere on this forum.



My questions are....



Why haven't I been able to find a lambo/vertical door kit for the 2nd gen?



Are ther ANY door kits that will fit properly without too much work?



What makes the 2nd gen's hinges so special from other sports cars?



If anyone has gotten Lambo/vertical doors, or knows someone who has, PLEASE tell me how, with what, and how much it cost.

If you search ebay, there will be a Labo door kit for the FC that comes up every once and a while. If you dont mind me asking, why do you want them? Those kits are usually made cheap(especially the ones on ebay) and the struts for the door usually blow out quick. This happened to my friends Civic , and to another kids Prelude. I know that if you were to get a set made professionally by asome company, the whole setup would prolly push $2000. That is money misplaced, for 2000 you could get your motor rebiult and posted, with some money left over to get a S-AFC and get some more ponies out of your car. Just my .02. Dont take it personal. what cps87rx7se is trying to say without the typos,



1. dont waste money on mad qwick doors.



2. Spend the money on getting a turbo II motor into one of your cars , or spend the money on getting your motor rebuilt and ported, with a fuel controller like the S-AFC and some exhaust components.



3. The struts on those doors are terrible, and you'll just end up wasting money on them eventually, and your car will still be getting passed by civics. Personally, id rather be quicker and have my doors open normally than to be slow and have them open like a lambo.





I mean, don't take what I say offensive, do what ya want with your money. But trust me, you'll be a lot happier with a nice motor than some doors that will become stupid real quick.

They definetely make them for the FC, I've seen a few places that have them available.

Thanks guys. I take no offense at anything you all have said. I asked for honest input/opinions and got honest input/opinions. My main reason for wanting the door kit is I want to find an easier way to get in and out of the car. I'm over 6' and I just feel awkward getting in and out of the car. Another thing is my garage is a little narrow. If the struts are just garbage like a couple of you said, then I'll just be keeping it outside most of the time.



I think I should give you guys some background about the work I'm doing/plan to do on my car.

First, I'm putting the manual from '86 into the '88. A real pain, but worth it in my opinion.

Second. The rotor housings were really scored so I did a little research on what can be done about them. I've heard about some people trying to rechrome them, but didn't realy have anything past the testing stage.

I was ready to buy new housings, until I finnaly found a place in Canada that can repair them. Instead of rechroming, they remove all the chrome and coat them with a ceramic cermet A or B coating. The cermate B is actually cheaper than buying a new housing. I should finnally be geting my housings back this week(after five months).

Whith that said, I'm really strapped for cash already, so the only mods will be for relaibility. Of course I'm getting a new exhaust and other stuff. I have been looking at rx7.com's Bonez superflow exhuast and a Boorla catback sys. The electronic upgrades will have to wait I'm afraid.

What makes you think lambo doors are going to make the car easier to get into? Not my area of expertise certainly, but I can hardly imagine there being more space available with a more complicated and heavier hinging system. I would suggest amputation.

I have the Borla cat-back system, and it is pretty good. It has a really nice tone to it when you get up and go, but when you are just crusing, it is quite enough not to attract any smokies. It also gave some pretty good power gains in the mid to upper part. Plus it is not all that expensive. A good choice if you choose it.

wrong topic??, and it seems like lambo doors would be worse for someone 6' i am 6' and have no trouble in and out of an fc. just like everyone else does we have to slide out.

I've heard they add quite a bit of weight as well.
