I have an 88 Turbo II and I have had a miss fire for quite some time now, all I do anymore is try to think of something else that could be causing the problem but nothing comes to mind that I can check, it isn't a constant miss fire, it's on and off... the car runs great sometimes but then it will just start miss firing, there is no pattern to it at all, if anyone can help me out please do....

here is a list of things that I have done so far...

had gas tank cleaned out by a muffler shop

new fuel filter and fuel pump filter

replaced turbo gaskets

cleaned injectors out

cleaned air filter out (bonez)

ohmed out crank angle sensor, coil packs, and all other sensors that the book lists specs for....

checked the timing numerous times

advanced the timing

hollowed out the cats

and I can't think of anything else at the moment...this has been an on going thing for about 5 months or more.... if you can offer any advice please help

By missfire do you mean it fires, but out of time or never fires at all on some rotations?

PS Welcome to the board!

yeah, did replace the plugs and wires, forgot to list that.... and by miss fire i mean it doesn't fire at all.... and sometimes there is an after fire when you let off the gas at higher rpms...

That's the tough part with this situation, being intermitant it could be something that tests fine, then pukes. Maybe it get hot and then it cuts out. I wouldn't suggest you go and change them, but if you could swap with somebody for a couple days or so.

My 84 was idling like crap, coils tested fine, but as soon as I replaced them (swapped them with the 83) it started idling perfectly.

Like I say it's a tough one to call and I certainly don't claim to know the answer, just tossing out a suggestion or two.

yeah i know, that is what really sux...but my problem is that I don't know anyone who has a turbo II, it's a pretty rare car in san antonio.... and I the people i know that have non turbos are hard to get ahold of and I don't know if the parts are different in any which way... and another problem is that here in san antonio there is only one guy that works on rotaries and he's an ####### and a con, charges out rageous prices for parts and labor, plus he doesn't like me cuz i wouldn't sell him my car, so I'm outta luck there... and i like to do the work on my car myself, so that i know what is done to it.

I appreciate the comments, and anymore that you can throw at me will be great.... I'm gonna change out the mass air flow sensor as soon as the part comes in, so I'm pretty much down to change it and hope i get it....if that doesn't work I'll do the coil packs next...

I also think it may be the injectors, when i cleaned them out i didn't bother getting them checked, and I dunno if you have been under the hood of a TII or not but getting to them is a major pain with the vacuum hoses and everything else....

thanx for the suggestions though

-Matt
