temp guage
lol, at above, that's nice ;D
mnguy, if it stays at half, i don't see the problem. i don't think whether it's s4/5 matters as much as whether the needle is holding steady. if you were having cooling issues, the needle would want to keep going up, as the system wouldn't be helping to remove heat from the motor. try driving it hard, maybe even uphill, for a little bit, and see if it goes higher. if you can't make it go up, i don't see any problems with it other than it might be a 20 year old pump and system that isn't as good as it was when it was younger

Negative if its at half you are about 220 deg Fer. that is bad. I tired everything to get mine down it was doing the same thing, I changed the water pump and thermo with a stock 192 temp, then changed to a Gm 350 180 and was still hot, you probably have a clogged radiatior. Run your hand from side to side and see if there is a big difference in temps, trust me you can feel it if there is.
oh, 220 is too high? i was thinking it would be alright as long as it didn't keep creeping up.
this might be silly, but have you tried flushing your rad? i bought one of those prestone flush&fill kits, and mine threw up some mud-colored stuff the first time i did mine. rinse, repeat a few times until it's completely clear.

mine got to 210 when my efan died and I about crapped my pants... this is after my last motor died of coolant failure so i'm a little paranoid
