Doesn't the stock fan make a lot more power than an electric would? It definitely sounds like it. I mean, it's powered by a 130 hp engine in your case not a .5 hp electric motor.

i think that is sort of true, the good part is that an electric fan will always move the same amount of air while the stock fan is rpm dependent. So an electric fan will move the max amount of air at idle and doesn't each HP on the top end. The stock fan moves alot of air once the engine is reving out, but at that point there is enough flow through the radiator to make cool without the fan anyway. No fan can really flow more air than a 60mph wind into the radiator. With a good enough fan, black magic or something, i think the air flow actually averages out to what you get with the clutch fan throughout the rpm range. My car has an electric fan, but only cuz someone pulled the shroud before i got the car and the stock fan wasn't doing anything for me.

a stock fan and shroud is very effective and there is no need to
change it, if your car runs hot with the stock set up there is
something else wrong, my car doesnt get over 160 on the highway and
never over 180 stop and go driving, I have never had a RX-7 run hot unless there was something else wrong.
why mess with a good thing?
