What's the difference between series 4 and series 5 trannies? Are there any at all? Are the clutches interchangeable?

Clultches are the same, the tranny's are different. The mounting bracket for the S4 and S5 are different, as long as you get the tranny and the bracket you are good to go.

Also they claim the series 5 is more solid.

So the mounting bracket to the frame is different. That cool since I have to make a crossmember from scratch anywayz. The ratios are the same, right?

I am not positive on the ratios, but I am pretty sure they are the same or so close to the same you won't know the difference. The S5 tranny has a dampener of some sort as well on the input shaft of the tranny.

5th gear is slightly taller in the S5 transmissions. All of the other gears are the same.

If you check the factory manuals you can SEE that it's true.
