sunroof options

My sunroof is stuck in the tilted-up position, this is the second time that I've had a sunroof problem. I don't want to spend the money to fix it again. Is there any feasible way to have a removable sunroof panel? I wouldn't mind just taking it off and sticking it in the hatch to let the sun in (and provide helmet room). That would also allow me to remove most of that top-heavy weight from the motor/track assembly.



Possible at all? Or are my only choices to fix it, leave it closed or weld it in?

The panel is a good idea, except that it would be hard to fab up. You could keep the style now (seal on the bottom of the panel) and add some clamps or something on the bottom of the panel so that it would sea it up. The problem is that you would have to remove/insert the panel from the outside.



If you changed the design so that the seals are on the top of the panel, then you could do it from the inside. Have tabs in the front of the panel and the tightning device on the rear of the panel. You would have to fab up a whole new piece though or modify the hell out of a stocker.



I am leaning more towards leaving the stocker on, adding a **** for the manual crank so you dont need a hex wrench, and ditch the electric motor. You would save a few pounds, and you would keep the sunroof

I know about the crank, I just don't have the crank handle.



I wouldn't care if I had to remove it from the outside. Maybe I'll just remove the panel and assembly, and just do some brainstorming.

Grab your power drill and then get the right size hex bit. That's what I did until I found a random just-happens-to-be-the-EXACT-one-I-need in the side pocket on the passenger side of a car that didn't have a sunroof. Amazing.



Thing is, after I wrecked the car, the sunroof works perfectly. lol

I would have to see the structure of the panel, but if you dont mind removing it from the outside, you should be able to do it pretty easily and cheap.

Im gonna be working on a removable panel. Im using the SpeedMachine CF roof that I got.



So far I got some sunroof parts from a Starion but I still need some more parts to get it to work.



The stock roof only opens half the size of the opening anyway. It should be nice to be able to have it all open. Especially since I have no A/C.

btw the manual chingaso is just a normal allen key

Be careful with the clips or whatever you use to hold the panel in place. As you're driving at highway speeds or faster, the pressure difference between the moving air over the roof and the stationary air inside the car may be enough to pop it out of place on the highway, causing all sorts of problems (especially for the drivers behind you)
