If its any consolation, my sunroof does the same thing. I think the motor is tired. Or maybe the mechanism needs some lube. Do I care? Not! :P

thats pretty normal, you can help it out though.

open the sunroof, and clean the tracks (they are silver colored) and lightly lubricate them with a light grease that wont dry up (i'm still experimenting)

next close the sunroof, and pop it up. there are some more things that need to be lubed. after that mine works about 50% of the time with no hands.

there is a next step but i'm not near my car, bump the thread up if #1 doesn't work

The motors are well known for getting tired.... as suggested, give it a clean and lube.... u could put another motor in if it really bothers you... but its a pain in the @$$... i've currently got my hood lining out so i can access it easily.

I've had 5 coupes, and only one ever worked without being pushed up. It still works fine to this day.

When I got my first car, an 89 GTU, they showed me the car with the sunroof open. When I got it home I tried to open it, and it wouldn't open. Then I got it open, but I forgot what I did. After a few minutes I figured out the "push method."

Yeah, mine does the same damned thing, and I'm getting a little pissed off at it. I mean, the car is like new with so few miles on it, so I figured that the sunroof would act like new as well.
