So its sunny out and im like, ok cool im gonna go for a drive today. Well you all know i havent really driven my car for about 6 months or so. Or any car with any power to be exact. So im cruising around town, doing the speed limit. My engine has about 700 miles on it now so i get on it a couple times, nothing major. Well when i would barely get on it my tires would break loose. Im using 245 z rated yokahamas on the back. Im talking cruising at like 30mph and barely punching it, and my back end would just kick loose. The porting makes a HUGE difference. Anyways.. so im driving along and i see my light is about to turn yellow. So i speed up a little... it turns yellow as i go under. As im coming out of the turn i touch the gas... well **** there goes my ass end. Slides out, so i correct .. but dummy me hasent done this in 6 months so i over correct let of the gas and as i wasnt coming around like i should, so i tap the gas again to send it back the correct way and sure enough there it goes. Ass end now on the other side, so i tap the brake while i feather the gas a little. Anyways .. point being there was traffic on the road (lucky all stopped due to their light) and i fucked up. Got it under control but some people were honking at me. lol... anyways, im scared to drive it now. i BARELY got on it and its sunny and warm outside, the ground is dry as a bone.

me <-- idiot

turbo too small?

sidewinderx7 02-20-2004 06:43 PM

crazy thing is, im running the stock turbo at 7psi

rfreeman27 02-20-2004 07:00 PM

How old are your tires?

sidewinderx7 02-20-2004 07:07 PM

about 9 months. I dont get why it kept breaking loose. The other night i was out and i got on it a bit and it didnt really get loose like it did.

i mean, before this new engine i could start back on the throttle coming out of the turn. And it wouldnt swing out. I know im not used to it, so maybe i applied too much and it just swung out.

either way, be careful everyone! lol.. scared the **** out of me after that happend. I drove right home and parked it in the garage. I dont want to drive it now :( lol

What kind of porting work does your motor have? Specs?

sidewinderx7 02-20-2004 07:38 PM

mild primary large secondaries, s4 rotors ... those are the power makers.

its also dowel pinned, bored oil and coolant, 3mm seals, high pressure oil regulator, etc ..

rfreeman27 02-20-2004 08:10 PM

i was going to say, tires dont like to sit on a car for a long time

Z rated summer ties on ice means bad news.

mazdaspeed7 02-21-2004 10:28 AM

What was the temp? Most summer tires are absolutely **** when its even just cold outside. I can light my tires up all day long when the temp drops to 40 or below. When its warm, they just stick.

75 Repu 02-21-2004 10:33 AM

Maybe you put armor all on them... Like that story about the guy with the IS300

Racer X 02-21-2004 11:11 AM

I thought you were had a T76 for it?

sidewinderx7 02-21-2004 03:04 PM

the t76 project got a little side tracked when my engine blew up. :-p

lol

so im actually thinking about going with a gt40r, so im looking more into that. Im still trying to take it easy on the car, boosting small on the stock turbo. After about 1000 miles i'll open it up more and start modding. However im heading to western europe in may so it might take me a little longer for some things. Look late summer and i will have some surprises.

Racer X 02-21-2004 05:14 PM

Just slap on a holset diesel turbo and call it a day.

It could be that they were impressed. Maybe they were honking and clapping, cheering you on.
