Can't be more specific? You'd be surprised how much smoke comes pouring outta my exhaust when I start it up...

Is the smoke oil or coolant(sounds like)?

Let me be a smartass and say this. Are you pressing the clutch in all the way and pumping the pedal just a little bit to get 'er started? And you would be very surprised in how much smoke will come out your exhaust. I would say it is pretty normal for that to happen. You may want to go ahead and change the coolant, and oil and oil filter just to be sure. Use Mobil One 15W50. Best stuff. And an air filter is an air filter IMO.

ONE thing. Do not pump the gas before you start it, you may already know, but just warning you. Never pump the gas in a fuel injected car. Carbies you can. When it does start up, what are you idling at?

And when you post problems be more specific. Say what year, turbo or N/A, any mods, just so the people who answer, will know.

Good luck

I was just never told to do it because of flooding it. And flooding is one problem I don't want to deal with. Christ, my 88 has 167000 miles on it, and she runs like a champ. I know it was ran hard, and had modifications done to it, and I don't run into any problems. Who knows? Some people just have bad luck.

This happened to me when I took my car out of storage and started her up, let me guess that smoke smells like gas...... I think its cause of the charging system, Ive gotten a new battery, and the problem went away, sorta, ive encountered this again after leaving the car sit for long time.

In conclusion,

1) The charging system is being drained, probably from short or whatever...

2) There is a leak of gas flooding the engine

If you figure this one out, let me know too!

HOLY DEFENSIVE BATMAN

Relax.

You still aren't specific as to the colour / smell of the smoke, and the duration of it.
